Last week’s triumphant two-day, live auction

Claridge's hotel

Last week, NCM orchestrated yet another glorious live auction on behalf of the esteemed Maybourne, showcasing the elegant surplus collection of its renowned hotels—Claridge’s, The Connaught, and The Berkeley. This prestigious event captivated an international audience, drawing hundreds of discerning bidders from across the globe, resulting in a dynamic, fast-paced auction that unfolded over two exhilarating days.

The auction offered a carefully curated selection of bespoke creations, each commissioned exclusively for these illustrious establishments by world-renowned designers. Among the exceptional pieces of high-end furniture, lighting, and artwork were masterpieces by Ben Whistler, David Linley, Paola Lenti, John Wigmore, EPOCA, and Rosenthal Junto—just a glimpse into the array of illustrious names that graced the collection.

Auction Highlights

A pair of custom-designed Ben Whistler chairs, commissioned by Robert Angell Design International (RADI) for The Berkeley’s iconic Blue Bar, garnered significant attention. RADI’s redesign of the Blue Bar masterfully preserves the essence of the original David Collins-designed space, retaining signature elements while seamlessly introducing new bespoke furniture by Ben Whistler. These one-of-a-kind pieces achieved a hammer price of £1,100—an exceptional acquisition for such a rare and meticulously crafted creation.

Another standout piece, a coveted Editions Serge Mouille floor lamp, typically retailing between £4,500 and £6,500, went under the hammer for just £900—a remarkable triumph for the winning bidder, an expert within the interior design world.

The auction attracted a prestigious clientele, including luxury hotel proprietors, elite interior designers, seasoned antiques dealers, and previous distinguished guests of Maybourne’s properties. Beyond the exhilarating energy of the event, the auction’s broader impact was evident. By offering surplus assets to the public through an auction rather than discarding them, Maybourne supported local businesses and contributed to the sustainability movement, underscoring their commitment to environmental responsibility.

Sustainable Practices

In collaborating with NCM Auctions to responsibly manage their redundant assets, Maybourne not only enhances their brand’s credibility but also solidifies their position as a forward-thinking, sustainable luxury leader. Embracing sustainable practices in such a public and impactful manner fosters greater trust, appeal, and respect in the eyes of discerning consumers, further elevating the brand’s esteemed reputation in an increasingly eco-conscious marketplace.
